It all began with a goose, a sandwich, and a whole lot of laughs. The creator of Big Belly Banks was once chased by a goose trying to snatch a sandwich from his hand. As the goose stretched its neck higher and higher, an idea was born: what if a silly, long-necked character could “eat” coins?

Later that day, he sketched a goofy-looking goose, added a zig-zag down its neck, and created a one-of-a-kind coin bank for his daughter’s birthday. The clinking sound of coins zig-zagging down made them both laugh—and sparked the idea to share the fun with the world.

The first 500 Duck and Dinosaur banks sold out at a craft fair, with nearly 500 more ordered on the spot! That was back in 1993—and the Big Belly Bank has been delighting kids and collectors ever since.
