Frequently Asked Questions

How are the banks shipped?

The banks ship disassembled, flat packed, with the body, foot/base and belly not assembled. These easily attach to the body, either using a dime, flat head or Phillips screwdriver to attach the base. Easy instructions are included. We ship via UPS, FEDEX or USPS.  In most parts of the country your order delivers within 3-5 days from shipment.

How do I get the money out?

The “Belly” is two halves.  It is held together by a special long bolt that passes through the center and screws into a special barrel nut on the other side.  Use a flat screwdriver or a dime to un-screw the bolt.  The two halves will then separate and open up for easy access.

What are the banks made from?

The bodies are made from recycled solid wood panels called Medium Density Fiberboard. These are sourced from North America. It’s the perfect material for these banks because there is no grain or sap showing through the paint and it’s splinter free!

The Belly is made from a durable plastic, and the attachment hardware are all steel.

Can I get spare parts?

Absolutely! We sell Replacement Belly Kits, Hardware, Ears and Eyes.  Need something not listed in our shop? Just contact us directly and we're happy to help!

Are the banks made of or with non-toxic materials?

Our banks are proudly handcrafted in upstate New York, USA!

Every component, which includes the wood, hardware, plastics, inks, and paints are submitted to a certified lab for safety testing and have been certified to be lead-free.

Are they safe for children under the age of 3?

Coin banks are not toys.  Coins are small and can pose a choking hazard for children 3 and under.  The hardware that holds the foot/base to the body of the bank and the nut that holds the “Belly” together are also small parts.

COIN BANKS ARE NOT TO BE USED BY CHILDREN UNDER 3 WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION.

That being said, many Big Belly Banks are purchased and given as new baby gifts and as gifts for young children.  Once assembled, our hand painted coin banks can serve as a decorative accent or lovely room accessory, fitting in perfectly in a child's room.

Which US Coins will this Bank track work with?

The coin track is specifically designed for American coins.  It takes pennies, dimes, nickels and quarters.  The dollar coin does not fit.

How much money will the bank hold?

More than you think!  It holds 978 quarters, over 3000 dimes or about $120 in mixed change.  The exact amount will depend on the mix of coins.

Will it accept dollar bills?

Paper money can be inserted by rolling it up and inserting it into the small slot at the top of the “Belly”, where the coins drop into it.
